Lancom Greece’s leading provider of Data Center, Cloud, and Telecommunications infrastructure, and ESpanix, one of Southern Europe’s largest and most established Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) headquartered in Madrid, today announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly explore and develop the Mediterranean Digital Interconnection Hub.
The MoU marks the official launch of a strategic partnership aimed at establishing a new, autonomous, high-performance digital ecosystem that will connect Europe, the Middle East, and Africa through resilient and low-latency interconnection routes. The envisioned Mediterranean Hub will position the region as one of the world’s most strategic digital bridges between Europe, Africa, and Asia.
Under the terms of the agreement, Lancom and ESpanix will evaluate all technical, commercial, and operational opportunities to interconnect their respective Internet Exchange platforms, enabling their communities to exchange traffic directly and paving the way for the future Mediterranean Hub.
Amedeo Beck Peccoz, Head of Strategy at ESpanix, stated: “We are excited to partner with Lancom on this ambitious vision. The Mediterranean Hub we intend to build together will offer networks and users unprecedented performance, resilience, and independence, while opening new markets and opportunities across Southern Europe and beyond.”
Nikos Zachariadis, COO of Lancom, added: “With the signing of this MoU, we are taking the first decisive step toward creating a game-changing Mediterranean Hub – a regional digital ecosystem built and led from Southern Europe. This initiative will redefine international connectivity across three continents and reinforce Europe’s digital sovereignty.”
The two companies have committed to work expeditiously toward a definitive agreement that will make the Mediterranean Hub a reality.
